Meriadoc Brandybuck, Samwise Gamgee, Frodo Baggins, and Peregrine Took. Meriadoc "Merry" Brandybuck is a Hobbit and a member of the Fellowship of the Ring. Born to Saradoc Brandybuck and Esmeralda Took in 2982 of the Third Age, he was an only child. When the Hobbits enter the Old Forest while fleeing the Shire at the beginning of The Fellowship of the Ring, Merry mentions having been there a few times before. Merry is 36 at the beginning of The Lord of the Rings, the second-youngest member of the Company. He has a lifelong interest in lore, history, and especially maps, revealing to his friends in The Fellowship of the Ring that he spent their time in Rivendell studying the books and maps kept there. His interest in lore only grows after his many adventures during the War of the Ring. In his later years, he writes several books about the history of the Shire, including Herblore of the Shire, Reckoning of the Years, and Old Words and Names in the Shire. Merry is no exception. However, he does carry a blade throughout The Lord of the Rings, a dagger that ends up playing a crucial role in the defeat of Sauron. Tom Bombadill rescues them from the wight and finds four daggers, which he gives to the Hobbits. These blades, known as daggers of Westernesse, were wrought by smiths of the kingdom of Arthedain during the Third Age.
Other Skills Merry is sturdy and resourceful throughout his many adventures; his skill with boats proves useful several times. Merry also displays his extensive knowledge of herbs, especially pipe-weed, throughout the books, though this skill does not prove especially useful. As the two youngest members of the Company that sets out from Rivendell, they are often seen laughing and joking together—a dynamic played up further in the movies. However, Merry and Pippin also look out for and take good care of each other. Backed by their loyalty, their combined ingenuity gets them out of many dangerous situations. Even after the fellowship breaks up at the end of The Fellowship of the Ring, Merry and Pippin remain together. Pippin picks it up, overcome with an unnatural curiosity. Merry remains behind with Aragorn and eventually rides to war with the people of Rohan.
Fandom Fanfiction about Merry, whether gen or slash, very often focuses on his relationships with his cousins Frodo and Pippin. Because of this many fans have written about Frodo and Merry as foster brothers and Frodo as a role model for his younger cousins. In the books, Merry and Pippin were close friends before and after the Quest, and took care of each other after their separation from the rest of the Fellowship.
I had not mentioned it previously, but the scale of these miniatures is TINY!!! The scale is a true 25-28 mm with realistic proportions, meaning that the hobbits stand about 20 mm. Overall, the sculpting was decent, although the likeness of Dominic Monaghan is somewhat lacking. As with Pippin, I chose to follow the colors of the wardrobe reference photos rather than the desaturated and washed out tones from the films. But the colors of his jacket and waistcoat really popped, making for a bright and interesting mini!

There are too many who call it forth for unworthy causes to the great hurt of all who follow them. Though, of course, the king did say that I was to sit by him when he came to his house and tell him all about the Shire.
Merry is both confident and competent. He is on home territory and he knows what to do. There is food and there are hot baths awaiting the anxious travellers in the cottage at Crickhollow.
But at this moment in the story all that must feel both a long time ago and a long way away as if it all belonged to someone else and not to him. Has he forgotten that it was he and Pippin who roused Treebeard and the Ents and so brought about the downfall of Saruman and the destruction of his fortress at Isengard and his army?
