NHL Expansion Draft 2017
The following rules applied to player selection for the expansion franchise: The franchise had to select one player from each of the 30 existing franchises. This did not include any additional players that the team would receive from possible transfers if the draft regulations were violated. The franchise had to select at least 14 forwards, nine defenders and three goalkeepers. The selected players in the franchise had to have a value between 60 and 100 percent below that of the previous year, taking into account the salary cap. This is to avoid teams handing over many players with inefficient contracts in order to gain a financial advantage. In addition, players transferred before the draft may only be transferred back to their former team after January 1, 2018.
The Knights must choose a player from each team for a total of 30 players. Las Vegas must choose 14 forwards, nine defensemen and three goalies. At least 20 of the players the Knights choose must be under contract for the 2017-18 season.

You expect a 6-foot-6 defenceman to have a hard shot and to impose himself physically. In a worst-case scenario, he becomes a useful third-pairing defenceman who can contribute at both ends. In the best-case scenario, he might challenge for the top 10. The potential reward has always outweighed the risk with Hague.

His 135 NHL points also lead the draft class though it will soon be surpassed by Pettersson, who is just three shy in 70 fewer games. Patrick excelled in the WHL playing for the Brandon Wheat Kings, registering 92 goals and 205 points in 163 regular season games with the club.
