LEGO has officially unveiled the January 2023 slate of LEGO Marvel sets featuring a small but quite interesting wave of characters and vehicles!

The Avengers Tower is such a popular MCU location which will appear in its biggest and most complex form once it releases on 24th November 2023 for Black Friday weekend. For that large price and amount of pieces, the tower unsurprisingly is one of the tallest LEGO sets to ever exist measuring 90 cm high and 34 cm wide. The set includes a whopping 31 minifigures expanding across an impressive cast of heroes and Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios.
It has a cleaner look, and as such the Minifigure pares back the printing to keep things relatively sparse. The detailing we get is solid and accurate to the movie version we see in Avengers: Age of Ultron. This is another LEGO Minifigure where we get the usual transparent blue bricks as the rocket boosters. It has all the usual details and print applications covering it and even has some really nicely defined red and gold paneling down either side of the stomach. The only issue we can see is that while the Iron Man in the movie has a fully exposed Arc reactor, the Minifigure has half a reactor. It is fairly accurate to the suit we see on screen. However, they add more gold highlights on the torso and leg pieces.
Perhaps this is because they used earlier concept art to base their prints on, or perhaps they just wanted to make the Minifigure look a little more interesting. It has a great-looking triangular Arc reactor printed in the center of the torso piece, and we like that LEGO gave it space to breathe, leaving the detailing towards the bottom of the torso and onto the legs. This Iron Man Minifigure comes complete with the wing accessories that he battles with. A harness goes around his neck and hangs on the back of the torso, and you simply assemble and clip the four arms to the harness. It looks neat and even has a blaster effect to add to the action shots.

I tried many different approaches, and I think the final solution addresses the challenges and stays true to the design language of the rest of the helmet. The shortcut here would have been to just change the color of 75277, the Boba Fett helmet, but we are driven by the idea that LEGO elements offer an infinite number of possibilities, so we continue the search for new ways to hopefully take it a step further. If you look closely at reference images, you will notice that the helmet is slightly wider at the base, and the sides slope gently inwards. This feature is addressed in the Mandalorian helmet. Not even Darth Vader has glowing eyes! While the rest of the model was mostly another exercise in getting the shape right, designing the eyes and the surrounding area was the most fun for me! To get the menacing appearance of the original droids right I had to tilt down the front of the head -- like a bull lowering its head, ready to attack.
Thanos must need something from inside the compound. The Avengers Compound Battle toy set hints that our un-jolly green giant somehow returns to proper brute form in Endgame. Both reveals would incite cheering in theaters everywhere.
