The Balenciaga and Adidas Collaboration Is Here—And Already Selling Out
This event marked the first American Balenciaga show in twenty years. The models walked the floor of the stock exchange with latex masks and a bondage suit under their suit. Dressed in white throughout its leather base and technical overlays, black three-stripes mark are hidden beneath the caging on the sides.
Distinctive features of the model are a thick sole and a fabric upper made of stretch material that resembles a sock. The same three Adidas stripes, as well as the shamrock and Balenciaga inscription, give the sneakers a sporty flair. They look like Gap remade for the dystopia. The collection is in line with the only two Gap pieces Kanye has released so far, the hugely successful bulbous, waxy Round Jacket and cropped Perfect Hoodie. Out, for the most part: logos and branding. In: shapes, materials, and silhouettes more recognizable than any insignia. There are hoodies and T-shirts, layered over or under ponchos, long draping tees, and shackets. There is a tracksuit, a jumpsuit made of what appears to be the swishiest material, and baggy billowing pants.
